8D7N Turkish Delight

Magical Istanbul is unique among the great cities of the world.  It straddles two continents, Europe and Asia.  Its history encompasses three major civilizations of the ancient world:  Roman, Greek, and Byzantine.  Not to mention its history as the center of the Ottoman Empire.  And, all that history is visible on almost every street corner with modern buildings perched atop ancient ruins and remnants of ancient walls lining today’s bustling streets.

Ephesus is a UNESCO World Heritage site.  No trip to Turkey is complete without a visit to Ephesus.   According to legend, the Greeks founded Ephesus around 1,000 BC.  The ruins of today date from the 4th Century under the Romans when Ephesus became an important port on the Aegean.  Excavations have revealed grand monuments of the Roman Imperial period.  Ephesus also played an important role in the spread of Christianity.

Cappadocia’s otherworldly landscape is hard to describe.  Perhaps moonscape says it best.  From its distinctive rock formations (fairy chimneys, mushroom caps, animals) to its churches, chapels, and homes carved into lava rocks to its underground cities, Cappadocia is like few other places on earth.
